Listen "Donny GroOVeCage's 1986-1990 Cassette Tribute To DJ Tony Humphries (Recorded Sept 5, 2019)"
Episode Synopsis
This mixtape contains mid to late 80s "house" jams from the era when vinyl and turntables still ruled (before everything went digital). It's a tribute mix to DJ Tony Humphries. I think this mix will appeal to true fans, dancers, and students of NYC/NJ's soulful underground dance music scene. Hella fun recording this one. A nice trip down memory lane featuring 15 CLUB ZANZIBAR Jams nicely blended into 47 minutes... (Yes, I've heard Tony Humphries play almost every song on this mix at one time or another.)
Disclaimer: I didn't use RECORDS/VINYL to record this mix which the words "Cassette Tribute" in the title may imply; I used DIGITAL MUSIC FILES. I just put these words in the title because I pre-planned for this mix to run for approximately 45 minutes as a tribute to "CASSETTE [analog] CULTURE. Anyone remember tapedecks and those TDK, Maxell, Sony, etc. 90-minutes cassettes where you can only record up to 45-minutes per side? Sounds limited by today's (digital-age) standards but those were probably the best of times for true music fans.
Anyways, Hope you enjoy the mix. Thanks for listen.
