(06:05) Abortion in the Ancient World - Today I begin a series studying abortion and infanticide in the ancient world. Surprisingly, and sadly, the ancient Romans and Greeks practiced abortion, utilizing both drugs and surgical instruments. Many of the reasons for doing this were similar to the reasons people give today, one of them being the idea of necessity due to poverty. There were ancient Greeks and Romans who spoke out against abortion and infanticide, just as there were those who spoke in favor of it. Interestingly, things do not really change until Christianity begins to wield influence throughout the Roman Empire.
