“from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”  - Genesis 2:17 Limits are for our good, so we must respect them. Otherwise, we will suffer the consequences of disobedience.  God’s prohibition not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for Adam and Eve communicates this truth —human freedom is safe within the boundary of God’s command. The consequence of crossing the border is an inevitable spiritual and physical death. And the rest is history.  God sent His Eternal Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. Jesus is the only one who respects limits and never crosses any boundaries. He has never sinned and remains holy and sinless, untainted by sin. By faith in His finished work on the cross, we can be forgiven of our sins and receive the gift of eternal life. It is a restoration of the marred image and relationship with God. Inside a relationship with Jesus, we can lovingly respect limits, for we are under His grace. We can take all morals and good laws seriously for safety. Love is the spirit of the law. We have His love in our hearts. And we can ask God daily to fill us with His love so we may listen, follow His word, and avoid needless suffering. God’s commands and all good rules are not hard to obey when we are filled with His love. What limits do you have a hard time respecting?
