Listen "Importance of Microbiome in Prevention and Treatment of Cancer"
Episode Synopsis
The human body is home to more than 1 trillion microbes with a diverse variety of microbes that play a crucial role towards your health. There is a growing appreciation of the role of the human microbiota in the pathophysiology of cancer. This dysbiosis can also modulate the aggressiveness of the tumor, influencing the microenvironment. Prebiotics, probiotics and synbiotics can manipulate the microbiota for therapeutic benefit and their potential role in the prevention and treatment of cancer has been widely studied. The administration of prebiotics, next generation probiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics and fecal microbiotas transplantation can act positively to affect the composition of the gut microbiota and can restore its balance. I discuss how these agents may suppress and prevent cancer.
