She graduated from Saint Petersburg College of Nursing in 1988 and worked as a pediatric nurse most of her career at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. She was a PACU nurse for 10 years. She transitioned to become a Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse Coordinator, a position she held for 22 years. In 2022, Mati began working for the NMDP, a national and international bone marrow/stem cell donor registry. NMDP is an organization driven by a commitment to save lives through cell therapy.
