Mopane Worms Insects are often considered an irritation to crops and animals, but they can make up for some food at low (conservational) costs, generate income and be part of fighting poverty in rural areas. Appetizing insects and caterpillars constitute one of the cheapest sources of animal protein. Mopane worms, are the caterpillars of the mopane emperor moth and they are widely consumed in Southern Africa mainly in rural areas and a delicate number in cities.
