We discover that these four verses (7-10) serve to give the basis for the spiritual gifts that are enumerated starting in v. 11. But, even the basis for those gifts, and the gifts themselves all work to the end that the Church would work in unity. Interestingly, this basis for the other spiritual gifts is based off of a single gift. Therefore, we must understand that unity in the church is based on a single gift!
To do this, we see 1) The gift of God is rooted in grace. 2) The gift of God is individual. and 3) The gift of God is proportionate to Christ's gift.
As we wrap up this discussion of the third and final aspect of God's gift, which is actually Christ's gift of salvation, we note that Christ's gift is tied to his humiliation (v. 9), and Christ's gift is also based on his ascension and exaltation.
