Episode Synopsis

As followers of Jesus, we are offered a new way of living…in the Spirit!  “But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.” (Romans 7:6)We are not only freed from the power of sin, but we are EMPOWERED to do good works in the name of Jesus!Following Jesus is not about following a list of do’s and don’ts and trying as hard as you can to be good. Instead, it means living righteously by walking in the Spirit and surrendering my desire to independently go my own way. Here are the key takeaways from the sermon: The Law tells us what sin is and that we all have sin - The Law is a lot like trail markers when you go hiking. They both tell us where we should be going. Without trail markers, I don’t know which way is the right way. Without God’s Law, I don’t know what sin is either. I need to know that because I’m human, sin is always a possibility - Romans 6 says that we are no longer slaves to sin! Hallelujah! However, we still have a human body that has sin because of the original sin of Adam. I cannot be righteous or good in my own power. I need Jesus to set me free from my sinful desires - In this life, I will always battle temptation as a human, but the powerful truth is that I can overcome each and every temptation through the power of Jesus ChristI can approach God’s Law as a list of rules or I can ask myself what’s the best way to please God? - Following Jesus is not about following a rule list. We should be less concerned about a list of rules to break and more concerned if our actions break God’s heart. DISCUSSION QUESTIONSIs there an area of your life where you most often confuse struggle with failure?Do you tend to run from Jesus in shame or run to Jesus in honesty and need? What is one specific thing (a habit, a relationship, an insecurity) that Jesus might be asking you to surrender this week instead of trying to fix it through your own strength? Can you share an example of a time when trying harder to “be good” only led to more frustration or self-condemnation?  What did that experience teach you about the difference between Law and Grace?Beyond prayer and Bible reading, what is one practical step (like more sleep, better diet, connecting with friends, or seeking counsel) that you recognize you need to take for your overall health?Support the show📍 English Worship Jogja | A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com📸 Instagram: @ewjogja
