Listen "Dear Church | Everyone’s Got a Story | Pastor Eleah"
Episode Synopsis
Romans 1:16-17“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes –the Jew first and also the Gentile. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, ‘It is through faith that a righteous person has life.’” (Hab. 2:4) Romans 3:23 - “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Everyone’s got sin: In Genesis 3, we read about how sin first began in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve were deceived. They chose their own wisdom over the wisdom of God. For us today, we struggle in the same way. We choose our own wisdom, knowledge, and desires over the wisdom of God and the consideration of others. Our sin is never just about us. It is messy and has a way of affecting everything. Everyone’s trying to save themselves: Since that moment in the Garden, humans have been trying to “fix themselves” or make it right again. Through rules, morals, laws, culture, religions, etc,, we have tried to save ourselves. But no matter how hard we try, we can never make ourselves good enough for a perfect God. .Everyone’s got a story: The Gospel is God’s story of good news for all of creation. It is a story that starts in a garden. Sin brought brokenness into the world, but a promise was made about a man who would come to destroy death and sin and heal the brokenness. Through Jesus, the promise is fulfilled. His life, death, and resurrection defeated sin and death and He now reigns victorious! through His church He is bringing His heavenly kingdom to earth and healing the brokenness of creation. Everyone is invited: The story doesn’t end with His resurrection though. In fact, that was just the beginning! Through His church He is bringing His heavenly kingdom to earth and healing the brokenness of creation, and you and I are invited to join our story to His and be part of this heavenly kingdom, bringing healing, hope, justice, and mercy to a broken and sinful world. The big idea is: "The power of the Gospel is that it brings the dead to life.”DISCUSSION QUESTIONSWhat would you say are some of Paul’s main points from Romans 1-3?What is so bad about sin? Why do you think it is a big deal? What are some ways that humanity has tried to “save ourselves”? And why hasn’t it worked? How were you invited to be part of this kingdom of God? What is your story (your testimony)? How can you share this Gospel story with others this week? How will you invite others to be part of this heavenly kingdom?
