Is our universe just one of a huge number of alternative universes? The "multiverse" hypothesis claims this to be the case and explains why our universe is simply lucky to be fine-tuned to support life, rather than being the result of divine creation or intelligent design. (We discussed 'fine tuning' in our two previous episodes of readings from "What is Man? Adam, alien or ape?" which remain available). We examine the question in this and the episode that will follow. There are in fact at least five different and competing multiverse theories, and we critique the first two in this episode. Both fail the tests of science, logic and reality.
