Listen "The Big Problem With All Those Personal Development Books For Direct Sales Leaders"
Episode Synopsis
Hey savvy leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. We are here for episode 94! Welcome. You can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/94. Personal development is the common denominator when it comes to savvy direct sales leaders. It’s the one thing every successful leader has in common. It’s virtually impossible to do this business, do it well, and not develop as an individual and business leader. It comes with the territory. It’s part of the journey. And thankfully right?! I haven’t worked with a leader yet who doesn’t have personal development at the top of her list of things she is grateful for as a result of her success. So, we’re all lifelong learners. Personal development is in our blood. We can’t stop. Even if we tried. We read all the books! Am I right? Whether it’s in a book club with our uplines, sidelines, downlines, or mastermind groups or maybe on our own. We read the books. So, what’s the big problem with all the personal development books? So many of these books ask readers to consider “What would your highest self do?” “What would your highest self do?” The problem is, if we don’t know our highest self, we don’t know what our highest self would do, what she would think, how she would feel, what she would say. It’s difficult to fully implement and benefit from the teachings. To really apply what we’re reading. Sure it can be a good read. We can have great discussions. We can “get a lot out of it”. But are we fully implementing the teachings and benefiting if we don’t know our highest self? Or is it just time spent with ‘a good read’? Who is your highest self? In my experience, most leaders kind-of, sort-of have an idea what “higher-self” is referring to and what they think it might mean. But truly. You are among the majority if you might be scratching your head on this a bit. If you can’t really articulate who your highest self is. You would be like most if not all. If we’re to embrace and implement the teachings of these powerful lessons and books we need to know who our highest-self is. If we’re going to continue on the personal development path we need to know who our highest-self is. If we’re going to know what our highest self would do or say or think or feel we first need to know who our highest self is. And also what it’s not. Which is easier to start with, I believe. The opposite of higher self is lower self. Let me share what lower self is about. It’s when we have self-limiting beliefs. We might be feeling down and discouraged. “I can’t do this!” We have self-doubt. We’re critical of ourselves. There’s negativity. Our ego is in the way. It’s dark. We’ve maybe become attached to the physical, the material things, there’s maybe a monetary tie and the status of our rank. Now, I’m not saying these things are bad. I can see how this would lead one to believe this is bad. Not at all. We’re simply getting a handle on what higher-self and lower-self mean. And if we’re stuck on these things we have a difficult time, almost impossible, connecting with our highest self. They can’t co-exist. There is so much more to this!
