Shoulder-2-Shoulder     Shoulder to Shoulder is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to alleviating hunger among underprivileged populations in Zambia. The organization operates through a network of churches to distribute food, while maintaining minimal overhead costs. Additionally, it supports community development initiatives such as water well drilling and agricultural training, all guided by biblical principles of sharing surplus resources with those in need. The organization provides sustenance to approximately 25,000-30,000 individuals in Zambia by collaborating with 125 churches, ensuring that nearly all donations directly support the mission with zero overhead costs in the United States. Recently, Shoulder to Shoulder procured $145,000 worth of corn to be distributed monthly over the course of a year, thereby increasing meal frequency for families. The mission of Shoulder to Shoulder is rooted in biblical teachings, particularly 2 Corinthians 8:13-14, which emphasizes the sharing of resources between communities with surplus and those in deficit. This principle aligns with the organization's goal of providing daily sustenance. In addition to food distribution, the organization has successfully drilled 25-30 water wells and offers agricultural training through partnerships such as the Zambia Iowa Agricultural Partnership. An upcoming trip to Zambia will include meetings with pastors, inventory checks, preaching, and efforts to enhance dietary protein intake, in collaboration with agronomist Dr. Curtis Youngs. The organization is supported by approximately 140 donors, including monthly contributors who cover distribution costs and larger donors who fund seasonal agricultural needs. Shoulder to Shoulder originated from family mission trips and chose Zambia as its focus due to the country's high hunger index and suitability for their work.
