Likely first performed at the Blackfriars Theatre or the Globe in London, it reflects the early 17th-century fascination with exploration and colonialism, possibly inspired by accounts of a 1609 shipwreck in Bermuda. Set on a remote island, the play explores themes of power, betrayal, forgiveness, and the transformative nature of art, centered on Prospero, a exiled duke and magician who orchestrates a storm to bring his enemies to his shore.
