Kilrush RNLI are advising people to be aware of the risk of cold water shock and the presence of rip currents, which can be hard to identify in inclement weather.
When entering the water, swimmers are encouraged to wear a bright identifiable swim hat, adjust gradually to the temperature and be aware of their own ability in the water.
