Listen "1920 Power Struggle, Jackson's Honor, Manuel's Award"
Episode Synopsis
In 1920, a power struggle in baseball nearly reshaped the league structure, with eleven club owners, including the White Sox, planning to form a new league. The Allied Eleven met separately from the Loyal Five teams, with the White Sox, Yankees, and Red Sox even resigning from the American League. However, the leagues remained intact, and Kenesaw Landis was appointed as baseballs first commissioner. In 1999, South Carolina Representative Jim DeMint introduced a resolution to honor Shoeless Joe Jackson, who was ineligible for the Hall of Fame due to the Black Sox scandal. In 2000, White Sox manager Jerry Manuel was named Manager of the Year, despite his teams early playoff exit due to pitching injuries. The Daily News Now! — Every city. Every story. AI-powered.
