An 1870s photograph of a performer with a blonde afro leads to a look into the racial perceptions and treatment of the time. The "race" was completely made up by a scientist and capitalized on by none other than P.T. Barnum. A whole mythology of who they were and what they looked like would be born out of the views of the Victorian Age.
