Culture, equity, diversity, and race; topics we seriously need to talk about more as Nutritionists and Dietitians. And by talk about more, I mean bring awareness into our practice and with our clients. Rosie is a Toronto-based Registered Dietitian who advocates for food justice and health equity. Growing up in a predominantly low-income neighborhood, Rosie experienced food insecurity first-hand. Early on, Rosie became aware of the link between poverty and food insecurity, and the destructive effects it was having on her and other members of her community. These experiences motivated Rosie to work towards addressing the root causes of food insecurity in her community, which developed her interest in food justice and educating her colleagues. Rosie is a member of the FoodShare Board of Directors, and many other food justice groups across Toronto. In 2020, Rosie developed an anti-oppression course for dietitians called CEDAR, and has plans to develop further social justice focused learning experiences for health professionals. Additionally, Rosie is the voice behind the brand "The Rosie Nutritionist", which explores food, bodies, and health through an intersectional lens. Rosie holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Toronto and is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario. Rosie aims to empower people to enjoy good food and diverse cultures while nourishing themselves and their communities.
