Listen "Episode 29 - Chicken Soup for Family Caregivers"
Episode Synopsis
The more I connect with family caregivers, the more I see the real need for frequent reminders about self-care. It's SO EASY to neglect our own wellness when our days and nights are busy with the challenges of caregiving.
Today's podcast is a story about chicken soup, but it's also encouragement to approach self-care from a direction advocated by one of my favorite writers, Emily P. Freeman, author of The Next Right Thing, which is also the name of her podcast (link below).
Emily is a huge believer in assessing our lives as each season of the year comes to a close and another begins. So, here we are, just as rainy spring gives way to the sunshine of summer. Seems an appropriate time to ask two of Emily's favorite reflection questions. "What has been life-giving for me in this season, and what has been life-draining for me in this season?" The goal going forward is to spend more time doing the things that soothe or energize, and less time doing
the things that frustrate or exhaust. I invite you to think on these questions as you approach self-care each day. Do the things, even if they're seemingly small, that bring you life!
Today I made chicken soup, and I shared it. And, guess what? It was life-giving self-care! Here's to our days in the sun, spending time with the life-giving things that heal our hearts and nourish our souls...so important for our short-term wellness and our long-term health.
