ABOUT THE POEM:The poet conveys his deep faith in the king’s generosity and justice in the poem titled FAITH IN THE KING’S BENEVOLENCE. The poet instructs the messenger (Cob - Male Swan) to deliver the message and describes the journey and ceremonial steps to reach the king. The poet likens his own longing and helplessness at twilight to the radiant, protective face of a victorious king. The messenger is to pause midway, ascend the palace in Uraiyur and proclaim loudly that he comes as a messenger from the esteemed poet and the humble servant of the illustrious Pichirandaiyar. By doing so, the king, known for his benevolence will reward the messenger and adorn his Pen - Female Swan with precious treasures.
