In this episode, we dive into the discussion surrounding the portrayal of the Black community in journalism and on the news. We explore the newsrooms of various Canadian outlets that have come under fire for their treatment of Black journalists or their manner in handling racialized issues. Furthermore, we discuss the negative effects of the film industry’s portrayal of Black women when we were growing up and we spotlight the Black creatives that have changed the industry on and off-screen. Finally, we address the use of blackface in the media and various solutions that should be discussed in order for the industry to move forward.
