We are studying Rom. chapter 9, and we have seen that it is theodicy-a vindication, or defense, of God. In the first five verses Paul gives us an introduction to this section. He tells us of his love for Israel. He says that he wished he could take their curse, implying that they were under the curse of God. This raises all kinds of questions. What about all the promises that God made to Israel? Has God’s Word failed? Has God gone back on His promises? Those questions are extremely important.
