When John the Baptist pointed to the Lamb of God and cried, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”, there was no question as to who he was talking about. There stood before all the people a unique and sinless man who, by baptism, identified Himself with the rebellious nation of Israel, indeed the whole world. He came to stand in the place of sinners. He was God’s great solution to the universal problem of sin.
