Listen "The Hot Seat - Conversation with Del from New York (pt II)"
Episode Synopsis
Del from NY talks to us about the early days of his conversion as a high school student. Del describes himself as a loner at his core. However, because the church was all encompassing, or high committment as it has been called, being a loner was not regarded favorably in the ICOC. Del believed that his being a disciple was his mission and his calling. He begins to talk about the red flags that he noticed. Like many of us, he noticed the red flags, but did not act on them right away. Del talks about the corporate structure of the church and he understood where he was in that heirarchy. Nonetheless, Del was willing to do what was necessary to climb up this latter that the church established. Del talks to us about the concept of the “hot seat” where a group of people would gather around you to “fix” your thinking. Learning about such practices made Del want to conceal some of his true opinions on church practices. Del begins to tell us about the process of his leaving the church as it is more complicated than just deciding to leave one day.
