Listen "311: My Greatest Ethical Challenge"
Episode Synopsis
Today we will look at a murder case in which a white deputy sheriff, while on duty, shot and killed an unarmed black woman. In 2014 and 2015 our country was confronting issues of racism and its impact on law enforcement. And, just as importantly, the impact of the actions of law enforcement on race. This situation took place before George Floyd died in the custody of police officers in Minnesota, but was after the riots in Jefferson City Missouri, over the Michael Brown shooting, in which thousands of people took to the streets and protested the actions of the police there. The trial here took place in Bastrop County, Texas, in the immediate aftermath of or surrounded by, and amid all the racial tension that was going on in this country.
