In this week's content course coordinator Dr Ajay Semalty, discussed some important aspects of journal metrics (quality/impact index of journals) with the various examples. The interesting example of Ramman and Pandav Nritya is noteworthy. Ramman is the holy dance form of district Chamoli of Uttarakhand and has been declared as the World Heritage by UNESCO. It is a bitter truth that even the people from Uttarakhand does not know about their heritage. In this context, it is his small contribution to take the culture of Uttarakhand at global level. In this part of his 15-week course, he explained that it is not true that just the hot topics are given more importance. The research on historical and cultural topics is also equally important and receives the contextual citations which are calculated by Impact per paper and Database Citation Potential. There is a huge gap in the numbers of papers from Science and arts disciplines from India. There are a huge number of reputed and high impact journals in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at global level also. In non-native English speaking countries, the researchers of Humanities and Social Science disciplines along with Science disciplines can also do the wonders in research and research publications provided proper guidance and basic information of Academic writing is given to students, faculty, and researchers. The course aims to improve the quality of research publications in the country. This is to note that India stands third at the global level in the number of research papers. But due to lack of proper knowledge and guidance, the quality of papers coming out of most of the Indian Institutions and Universities are not of high global standards of quality. This is the high time to learn the basics of Academic writing to publish the original research work in quality journals.
