Episode Synopsis
Season 6, Podcast 115, Isaiah 56:1-12, “Keep Ye Judgment, and do Justice.”Through Abraham God made covenants to the House of Israel. Abraham’s son was Isaac. Isaac’s son was Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons. Each son became the head of a tribe. The tribes are famously known as the Twelve Tribes of Israel. In God’s covenant to Abraham are the following promises. Promise One: Abraham shall become a great nation.Genesis 12:1-31 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.Promise Two: Abraham’s descendants shall be as countless as the stars in number.Genesis 15:55 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.Promise Three; Abraham shall be the father of many nations.Genesis 17:1-91 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. The phrase “everlasting covenant” elevates the promises to Abraham. They are in effect not only in this life but in the next, meaning that whatever blessings he receives on earth, he will also receive in heaven. Isaiah 56 expands that covenant to include not only Abraham’s seed but all righteous people who come unto Christ, who keep his commandments, and who endure to the end. In other words, all the promises of Abraham are also given to those who live as Abraham was commanded to live.Galatians 3:6-96 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.Every promise made in the everlasting covenant to Abraham applies to all who are saved by Christ. Isaiah 56 lists the conditions of the law that everyone, including the Twelve Tribes, must meet to receive the promises made to Abraham.Criteria One:Isaiah 56:11 Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. What does it mean to ‘keep ye judgment, and do justice’?
