Listen "Introducción India (Inglés)"
Episode Synopsis
Hello, I am Aryabhata. Possibly do not know me, but I am one of the most representative prominent figures of the origin of the mathematics in the India. I was born in Taregana, a small town in Bihar, India, which is to about 30 km from the city Pataliputra (nowadays Patna). In Taregana, I established in the century six an Astronomic Observatory in the Temple of the Sol, studied it brings over of the system of positional notation and the zero, approximation of the number pi, trigonometry and many things more, but already we will penetrate on it later.... The beginnings of the mathematics in the Antigua India we can locate in 3000 B.C.-2600 B.C.In the civilization Harappa, though there are mathematicians who postulate that it appeared in the century seven eight B.C., in the Vedic period. Before the century four B.C., the hindúes had some contact with the Greek world. The march of Alexander the Great on the India took place in this century. On the other hand, the expansion of the Buddhism in China and that of the Arabic world multiplied the points of contact of the India with the exterior. In a beginning it was in use for calculations in the trade, for measuring the Earth and for predicting the astronomic events.
