Episode Synopsis "James - Art Reflects The Times"

In this episode I talk about how art reflects the times. 1937 a Jewish American man Abel Meeropol, disturbed by Caucasian families picnicking lynched bodies of African Americans in the south of the United States, wrote a poem which he turned into song called strange fruit. A song years later made famous by Billie Holiday. If you are at home wondering with all this madness going on in the world, what can I do? I give you the words of one my favorite people. Dr. Maya Angelou. She says: “You should be angry. You must not be bitter. Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. It doesn’t do anything to the object of its displeasure. So use that anger. You write it. You paint it. You dance it. You march it. You vote it. You do everything about it. You talk it. Never stop talking it.” The poem you going to hear is called I Too Am American, recited by my wife Jade and I. You may find more of my poems in my book called “The Moon Rises With Light”. Sold on Amazon and Barnes and Noble in hard cover, paper back and ebook.
