Know About Tomato Flu

Listen "Know About Tomato Flu"

Episode Synopsis

Tomato flu is most likely caused by a strain of the hand, foot, and mouth disease virus ( Coxsackie virus). It was assumed that it was not a new viral infection, but rather a side effect of dengue or chikungunya infection (though this is less likely). It causes reddish rashes, skin irritation, and dehydration and primarily affects children because most adults have a well-developed immune system that can defend against this virus. It has been reported mostly in the 1-9 year age group and has been reported first in Kerala, followed by Tamil Nadu, Odisha, etc.  Tomato flu symptoms are similar to COVID-19, such as fever, fatigue, and body aches, but the virus is not related to SARS-CoV-2. Along with keeping the infected child away from uninfected kids, preventive measures include maintaining good hygiene; and sanitising the surroundings and environment.
