Listen "Basel Alnajjar And The Second Nakba"
Episode Synopsis
On the October 15, 2023 episode of Mic Check, host Mike Merli was joined by Basel Alnajjar, a Palestinian/Syrian American residing in Connecticut.
Basel organizes with American Muslims for Palestine - Connecticut, and was an avid member of Students for Justice in Palestine as well, still aiding in their efforts.
During the discussion, Basel speaks about his family's roots in the West Bank; the first Nakba in 1948; Israel's brutal slaughter of over 2,300 Palestinians in the past eight days; the Second Nakba unfolding right now on Gaza, with Israel's forced migration of 1.2 million people; and his experiences on the front-lines organizing for Palestine as a university student here in Connecticut.
Basel shared the following demands, towards the end of the interview:
1. Urge elected officials to condemn Israel's genocide on the Gaza Strip and pressure Israel to call off the ground invasion.
2. Give Palestinians support (access to basic resources and ending the Gaza blockade).
3. Support HR 2590 (which condemns the imprisonment and illegal interrogation of Palestinian children).
