One of the most predictable aspects of the life of faith is that there will be opposition. How do we respond when other people insult us? How do we press on when we get weary or encounter setbacks and disappointments? How do we counter fear? In the story of Nehemiah, the Jewish people experienced opposition in their mission to rebuild the walls of their city. They encountered insults that could have become a distraction, weariness that could've led to discouragement, and fear that tried to shake their faith. The life of faith requires determination which means standing firm in the face of opposition. Nehemiah’s determination is an example to us for how we can strengthen our faith in who God is and focus on what he’s called us to do.
