Co-author of the Lancet report, Dr Louise Newson, GP and renowned menopause specialist, said: ‘For far too long women’s health has been a totally neglected area of research.’‘I would urge all healthcare professionals, particularly those working in dedicated Long COVID clinics, to ask “could these symptoms be due to the menopause or perimenopause”?But is it dangerous to be labelled with one or the other, what happens when there is a crossover ?We put this question to Lyn Curtis who is in peri-menopause and has been suffering from Long Covid for over 18 months. From the studies with Cambridge University and from the support groups she is part of for Long Covid we learn vulnerability to and mortality from acute Covid-19 infection is higher in men, whereas Long Covid disproportionately affects women, we start the conversation of trying to find out why? Lyn discusses the social and economic facts that surround Long Covid and why gender plays a part in symptoms that can be looked at as hormonal in men and women, but not in children? From Lyn’s interview we look at why we are at the tip of the iceberg for long term care and future conditions surrounding Long Covid. So what was your lockdown purchase?
