Listen "122. James - Chapter 2 - We are not to show partiality - September 19, 2022"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 19. I will then key in on verse 20: I will mention verse 8 & verse 27, but I will key in on verse 20: Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days. It is important to read the Word of God on our own, and we can hear the Holy Spirit speak to us through His word, however, it is still important to have at least one, and preferably two or three people, that we can go to to seek advice. At this point, I will review Psalm 1 and the importance of being selective in the people that we allow ourselves to ask for advice. It would be prudent if you ask advice from people that you admire, or would like to become like them. You know that they do well in their job, that they are well adjusted and steady in their family life, their kids are doing well, etc. I would not recommend that you seek advice from people who are always anxious, or on edge, or who struggle in their life (either keeping a job, or having issues with their spouse or kids). This ties in well with the passage of scripture that we will be going over today - James, Chapter 2, verses 1-9. These verses tell us not to show partiality (basically, not to judge people). I will read these verses in their entirety and then bring up three points that I would like the audience to ponder: 1. We should not show partiality (I will read John 3: verse 16 and remind everyone what God thought about this. He was willing to send His son to Earth so that all people would receive eternal life); 2. Do not look down on the poor - Jesus showed us the example of how we are to love (and hopefully get along with) everyone. For the people who rub us like sandpaper, the Holy Spirit can help us at least show us how to be polite with these people; 3. Love your neighbor or as yourself (I will bring up the story of the Good Samaritan - found in the Gospel of Luke). We are to get along with all people - to the best of our ability. I will then go back to verse 20 of Proverb 19 and invite people to entertain the idea that reading from scripture is like being in a classroom and will give us the instruction we need to lead balanced and healthy lives.
