In sharp contrast to X, Pearl provided more of a character study, showing how Pearl came to be, well, Pearl. With the publication of MAXXXINE, the last book in West's X trilogy, we can now experience Maxine's post-X journey. Is it, however, a worthy end to this cherished horror trilogy? Sadly, the critic felt that it fell short of the high caliber of West's earlier movies, leading to an unmemorable conclusion. Let me now refer to the official synopsis in order to avoid giving any spoilers: Adult film star and wannabe actress Maxine Minx eventually makes her big break in 1980s Hollywood. But a trail of blood could expose her dark history as an enigmatic killer hunts Hollywood's elite. Kevin Bacon is excellent.
