Adriana Heldiz (Class of 2017) is the assistant visuals editor at CalMatters. She previously worked at The San Diego Union-Tribune and Voice of San Diego.A first-generation Mexican-American born and raised in Chula Vista, Adriana shares her story of starting as a Music major before finding a passion for Journalism. She reflects on the bonds she formed with like-minded student Journalists at The Daily Aztec, how the intimacy of the JMS school leads to a tight community, and the tweet she sent a reporter than led to an internship and later a full-time job.Adriana also details the photo essay she created to personalize the story of school bus cuts, and takes us inside the CalMatters newsroom for how reporters and visual artists work in tandem to create impactful stories."Where Ya At?" is a podcast focused on the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University.
