In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant marine and maritime historian - discusses the 66th annivesary of the sailing of the SS Ideal X with the first 58 thirty-five foot containers from Port Newark, New Jersey to Houston, Texas, marking the opening of the Container Era in Ocean Shipping.  The history of Malcom McLean is examined, including his trucking career, the originiation of the concept of containers, the engineering and development of the first boxes, and the evolution of Sea-Land from its inception in 1956 to its eventual end in 2006.
