He seeks to entice and harm any who would want to serve God and persecution is one of the methods he uses to do that. We note that the Old Testament record is filled with the persecution of the righteous. We discuss Cain and Abel, Zacharias, Moses, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Mordecai and others. In the New Testament persecution of the righteous continued. John the Immerser was targeted as was Christians such as James, Peter and Paul. We close out the first part of this episode by a short mention of riots, false charges, brutal assaults and even murders that were used to persecute the first century brethren.
