Listen "Drive Time Show Podcast 22-09-2025: Flagging Identities and Pressure on Schools"
Episode Synopsis
Join Hanif Khan & Amaar Ahmad for Monday’s show from 4-6pm where we will be discussing: ‘Flagging Identities’ and ‘Pressure on Schools’
Flagging Identities
Do you feel proud to fly the Union flag in Britain during the Olympics? Or does it make you feel uncomfortable to see rows of St George’s crosses lining the streets of Birmingham? Are these flags a symbol of unity and patriotism or are they being hijacked for political purposes by those who wish to divide us? These are some of the questions we would like to discuss as we look into how flags reflect our national identity. Join us between 4 and 5 as we go on to consider the
motivational pull of flags.
Pressure on Schools
As classrooms grow fuller and teacher
shortages rise, we ask: are our school
buckling under pressure? The show will
explore how increasing demands, limited
resources, and policy shifts have pushed
educators to the edge. We’ll reflect on the
emotional, physical, and professional toll this
burden takes, and what this means for the
future of education in the UK
Guests:
Orla Muldoon - Professor of Psychology at the University of LImerick
Malcolm Farrow OBE - President of the Flag Institute
Professor John Denham - Director of the Centre of English Identity, University of Southampton
Jake Puddle - Director of Research at British Future
