The 2025 Budget signalled a clear shift in tone as the government tried to navigate a tight fiscal position. Although talk of broken manifesto pledges had been circulating for weeks, the announcements still came as a blow to many. The opposition has argued that the Chancellor should step down — but is that fair? Was this an unfair budget, or a set of difficult decisions the government felt it had no choice but to make?
