"We need to tell our story to our ratepayers."The Mayor of Glen Eira, Cr Jim Magee, is passionate about the state of the local government sector and the challenges it faces.Cr Magee has had discussions with mayors from across Victoria and interstate, and they all face similar problems in their municipalities.He believes that councils need more support from state and federal governments, as they are facing increasing costs and limited resources.Cr Magee argues that councils are often blamed for issues that are beyond their control, such as planning decisions and cost shifting from higher levels of government.He believes that councils need to communicate their challenges and the impact of government decisions to ratepayers, so they understand the need for rate increases and additional funding.Cr Magee is part of the current Mayoral Advisory Panel and hopes to address the issue of financial sustainability in local government.
