Episode Synopsis "Leadership from the Outside In"

We close out 2024 as both a celebratory time of the new year and a solemn time to mourn a great man and patriotic American, former President Jimmy Carter, who passed this week, and we hope is reunited with his beloved wife, Rosalynn. I asked a Yale Law School student, Colin Dunkley, to join me today to reflect on the following quote from late President Carter, spoken in 1979 but could describe today: "The gap between our citizens and our government has never been so wide. The people are looking for honest answers, not easy answers; clear leadership, not false claims and evasiveness and politics as usual.” Given Yale has been the cradle of the nation’s leadership, from Supreme Court Justices, a former Presidents, and an incoming Vice President, I wanted to talk a bright young mind who might be a future leader for our nation. Colin shares his advice on how 20-somethings today can show leadership for policy and social impact, what role he sees for AI in the law, and how employers can recruit and retain the best and brightest young minds to their companies. Colin Dunkley a second-year law student, or L2, at Yale, is the brother of a classmate I met at Harvard Law School’s Program in Negotiation class. Colin grew up in Florida, served as a tutor in chemistry and math, was a senior research specialist at Princeton and now is studying law.
