Initiative is a virtue defined by taking ownership of oneself and seeking a path of discipline rather than a path of idleness. Initiative understands our vices and the things that hold us back, but refuses to make excuses or accept defeat. One such example is Major Jordan Northrup. He would experience multiple opportunities to take initiative in his fourteen-year battle with alcoholism, which would often end in failure but would ultimately end in victory.
