Listen "Always Let Your Conscience be Your Guide"
Episode Synopsis
Read: 1 Samuel 24:1-7In our current sermon series, "Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets," we have learned the path to better decisions is to ask questions. Today’s question is:The Conscience Question: Is there a TENSION that needs my ATTENTION?Have you ever had a decision, a choice, an option that for some reason just didn’t feel right to you? It gave you pause and you may not even know why you are hesitating. These are called “red flag” moments.1) Think of some red flag moments in your life. Did you pause and pay attention to the red flag or did you ignore it? What was the end result?2) Have you ever had a red flag moment when everyone seems to be in a hurry to make a decision and you are the only one who seems to have a problem with that choice? What happened? Did you allow fear of being judged or rejected influence your voice or did you stand your ground?Sometimes we think our decision is a slam dunk, but the people around us (spouse, parents, adult children, friends) see your decision as a red flag moment.3) How do you react to those opinions? Do you listen or do you ignore them? 4) In our scripture passage, David, had the perfect opportunity to kill Saul and seize the throne for himself. After all, David had been anointed king as well. Yet David listened to his gut and allowed the king to go free. Did David make the right decision? What would you have done in David’s place? Many of you are wrestling with a decision right now. All of us need to be making good decisions in the world and nation in which we live. 5) Will you pause even when you cannot pinpoint the cause of your hesitation? Will you explore rather than ignore your conscience?
