Episode Synopsis
Tenea Watson Nelson, PhD, is a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategist, scientist, and CEO of Watson Nelson Consulting. With nearly two decades of experience, she partners with leaders to create human-centered, data-informed strategies that foster authentic inclusion and drive transformative change. Her journey bridges science and social impact, beginning as a toxicologist at Gilead Sciences and Genentech, then serving as Assistant Dean and Director of Diversity at Stanford University’s Schools of Sustainability and Medicine, where she doubled underrepresented graduate admissions, secured millions in funding, and influenced national retention strategies in STEM. Through Watson Nelson Consulting, she works with clients from tech and healthcare to environmental nonprofits on projects such as auditing AI products for cultural bias, building inclusive storytelling strategies, and embedding DEI into strategic roadmaps. Clients have included Elsevier, California Environmental Voters, Wiki Education, and The Marine Mammal Center. A sought-after speaker, facilitator, and executive coach, Tenea helps teams move from intention to impact and make inclusion a strategic, measurable part of organizational success.
