Thousands of protesters took to the streets. Los Angeles declared a state of emergency; the California National Guard (2,100 troops under federal command) and 700 Marines were stationed nearby. Anti‑ICE demonstrations spread to NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, and more—some peaceful, others marked by arrests and confrontation. In response to Trump staging a lavish military parade in Washington, D.C.—coinciding with his 79th birthday and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, was the “No Kings” protest. This was about solidarity against what activists view as Trump’s authoritarian demeanor—militarized display and suppression of dissent.
