Goal's Seth Vertelney brings you the American women’s soccer news you need to know today.The U.S. women’s national team was stunned 3-0 by Sweden in their Olympic opener on Wednesday, as Stina Blackstenius scored two goals to help the Swedes to an upset win.It was the first game the U.S. had lost since January of 2019, ending a run of 44 consecutive matches without defeat. The loss was also the first defeat suffered by head coach Vlatko Andonovski, who had won 22 and drawn one of his first 23 matches in charge.Sweden went ahead after 25 minutes from a Blackstenius header, and the forward scored her second goal of the game in the second half off a corner kick. Lina Hurtig rounded off a comprehensive win for the Swedes with a header in the 72nd minute. The U.S. must now regroup on Saturday when they face New Zealand. Andonovski may be forced to make several changes to his lineup after a surprisingly poor display in their Olympic opener.
