Listen "Words that last"
Episode Synopsis
Some years ago a famous Christian speaker was invited to preach at a Baptist Church in northern China. For seventy years the church had endured unrelenting discrimination and persecution. They had been forbidden to have regular jobs, their schools and universities taught militant atheism, and they were constantly attacked for their faith. But despite all this the church had not only survived but grown.
As he walked to the church the speaker noticed a tangled heap of rusty metal by the side of the road. He realised that it was an old communist slogan that a fallen from the roof of a nearby building. It’s faded lettering proclaimed, ‘The words and deeds of Lenin live forever!’ The irony was not lost on him.
Jesus once told his followers, ‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away’. Perhaps that explains why earthly empires come and go but the church of Jesus Christ continues to grow; and why the Bible remains the best-selling book in the world year in and year out, while, like its billboards, the teachings of Lenin lie decaying at the side of road.
