Listen "Who will help?"
Episode Synopsis
As a second wave of Covid19 sweeps across the UK despair and frustration for many is growing. It can feel as if the very foundations on which we’ve built our security and identity are being stripped away. Sometimes in our desperation we reach out to things that we think might help, only to find that they sink with us. So, what are we to do?
Well one of the great figures from the Old Testament, King David, has wisdom for our time. He had learned in his youth as a shepherd boy that with God beside him he was able to withstand attacks from lions and bears. In his adult life it stood him in good stead for the trials that were to come. In one of his psalms he asks, ‘When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ The answer comes immediately, ‘The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.’ In other words when the bottom seems to be falling out of your world, you can be sure that God is still God and will be there for you if you look to him. As David wrote in his most famous Psalm, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd.’
