Listen in as I discovered kindness at a local Waffle House.
I was out of town, up early and alone. I noticed a Waffle House. You know the ones with the yellow and black building, booths, counter top seating where you can watch the line cooks do their thing, talk to them and share stories.
I picked a booth, Stevie Wonder was blaring overhead singing “sign sealed and delivered”. One waiter was going through last night’s receipts siting, singing and dancing as the music filled her soul.
It made me want to join in. She was genuinely happy. It was pure. It was a joy to watch.
ReeRee greeted me as I picked a booth with a soulful, “morning baby”. It made me smile and filled my heart with morning joy. Let me tell you in that moment I could tell she loved life, loved what she was doing, had joy in her heart and wanted to share it with everyone she met.
I watched ReeRee and the rest of the staff greet, talk, and smile with everyone that walked in. The regulars got hugs, high fives and without asking their orders were made with love and brought to them promptly.
There was an older couple that walked in, took their regular spot  at the counter and every single employee came over to talk with them. The gentleman had a US Navy retired baseball hat on and I could over hear him sharing stories of times go by with clarity and pride. He took out his phone and shared pics of his grandchildren as the ReeRee and her crew showed interest and human kindness.
It’s the simple things that make life worth living. The human kindness on display on this Saturday morning was beautiful.
