Stephen was one of the original seven that was appointed by the church in Acts 6.  The Bible tells us that he was a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.  In chapter six we also see the Jews disputing with Stephen, and "they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake(Acts 6:10)."   Therefore, they falsely accuse him of blasphemy. In chapter seven we see Stephen's response to these accusations.  He does not defend himself, but rather proclaims what God had done.  This sermon begins with Abraham, and it closes with the persecution of the prophets who proclaimed the coming of the "Just One(Acts 7:52)."   At the end of this chapter we will be introduced to a young man named Saul, who consented unto the death of Stephen.
